    NTFS on Kubuntu

    Hi,

I have a Windows/Kubuntu dual boot system, is there a way I can save files on my external hard drive which uses NTFS on Kubuntu?

Reading ntfs in Linux is now routine, but the software to write ntfs is still in beta. Please take a look at the linux-ntfs website to get the full story. Then you can peruse the 99 page thread at http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=217009 for detailed instructions. But, you can probably get going by simply installing the Edgy package from the Universe repositories.

at the moment it is not needed, I will go ahead and wait for the final version, when it goes final will it be in future versions of Kubuntu/Ubuntu? Or will it be a seperate install?

It's planed to merge it into the main kernel line.

That means that future versions of linux (Ubuntu and others) will install it by default.

Awesome, do you know when we can expect it to be finished?

            Re: NTFS on Kubuntu

I read on the linux-ntfs-dev list that the main developer expects to merge write support this christmas into linux-nts driver.

So maybe *ubuntu 7.10 can have ntfs-writing built in. Probably later.

            Javier.
