    Can Kubuntu be installed on a pc and run as an alternate OS without uninstalling XP.

    Yes, but you need to make room for a couple of partitions. There are tools to resize your existing Windows partition if you have space.

      Yes, I recommend using a program such as Partition magic, I have an old powerquest copy before Symantec bought them out. Just resize your current Windows partition to free up 20 GB of space and you should be good to go.
