    Kubuntu sata/raid

    Hello everybody,
I'm a new user in Kubuntu and in Linux platform general. So i really need your help.My problem is written bellow:
I have a desktop workstation AMD Opteron proccessor 64bit and 4HDD.I want to install windowsXP and Kubuntu 6.10 as well.
I 've set the 2HDD of 36Gbt in raid 0 and the 2HHD of 300Gbt in raid 1.The result is that windows "see" 1HDD 70Gbt and 1HDD 300Gbt.Unfortunately Kubuntu "see" all HDD separated,it doesn't recognize any raid set up.Any ideas how to solve this problem?

    Thanks anyway

    Re: Kubuntu sata/raid

It seems like you have a "soft" RAID. It means that the RAID "magic" is done in the windows drivers.

Unless the RAID manufacturer has linux drivers (very unlikely in "cheap RAIDs" like this one looks) you are not going to be able to access to your windows disk.

If you want to install only Linux in that computer, you should probably turn off RAID on the BIOS and let linux make it's own RAID. You will need to install kubuntu with the alternate CD.

It's quite easy, and usually the RAID is faster (YMMV).

If you want linux and windows in the same computer... I don't know how to do it without turning that RAID off.

    Javier.
