Ubuntu Guide

Let me start off by saying I'm a noob to linux. I'm trying to jump into the linux world. My question is:

I do have Kubuntu on one of my PC's. I just saw the Ubuntu starter guide at http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/Ubuntu_Edgy. Will all these commands work in Kubuntu? I'm guessing KDE and GNOME are just interfaces to run these commands in a GUI way. Am I correct? So all of these commands will work in either Kubuntu or Ubuntu.

Yes, but :P

In the gnome you use gksudo and in the kde you use kdesu.

In the gnome gedit but in the kde kate/kwrite/...
