[PLASMA 5] Replace compositor with compton

I found an article replacing default compositor with compton:
    https://www.maketecheasier.com/speed...-with-compton/

The KDE section is near the bottom. Interestingly I agree with the author. Now my programs pop up much quicker using compton.
Just curious if anyone else tried this approach?

Haven't messed with this in a while, so it has probably changed, but I did not find Compton to be all that interesting.

Compared to KDE’s native compositor, there was a substantial increase in speed and responsiveness. The desktop now reacts so quickly it’s almost violent
    .
This is as much a configuration thing than a performance thing.
You can make kwin to be quite 'violent' by moving a slider to the right.
Animation speed has little to do with performance, but for visual 'friendliness', for lack of a better term

A game under Proton was suddenly running at 60+ FPS, where previously it was struggling.
This is odd, but we don't know the specs or configuration used, but most games, particularly those that run full screen, disable compositing when they are run. This is the default setting in Plasma.

perhaps it being a windows game under Proton, and not full screen? I have run a couple of games via proton and Wine in the past year or so, and they both disabled composting, though I have not run them in a window.

kwin is using 44 Mb of ram on my Radeon RX480 PC, and 29Mb on my Intel iGPU on my laptop. Each have a couple extra effects, and some minor blur adjustments.

Good point about the slider, I never thought about that being the case. I haven't used or touch those options much. I do like kde's visual 'friendliness', as you put it.
      Thanks for the input!
