There is a line from Lord of the Rings in which an Ent by the name of Treebeard says that he is going to tear up Sauron "by root and by twig" or something like that. So...
Since Akonadai is broken I tried the time honored terminal command:
akonadictl restart
well THAT didn't help much.
So, I decided to follow Treebeards advice and get rid of all of it and install systemd since ONE of the messages was that the d-bus was not starting.
sudo apt-get install systemd-sysv
The OS turned purple and smoke started to come out of the CPU... not, just joking.
It took a restart and guess what, upon restart and clicking checkmail the outbox was emptied, end of story.
However, as with all things Kmail and Akonadai and whatever...to paraphrase Lance Armstrong
"this may only last an hour or a day..."
