When I try it installs VMware driver! I tried twice making sure I typed what vinney said. I checked and the 396 Nvidia files are installed. Apparently, the driver is broken and Vmware driver appears. VMware nor any VM's are installed.
Just to remind users and devs that Ubuntu and its flavors have a long way to go to be as usr friendly as they should be.

No, Nivida's driver is not broken. THe LLVM (llvmpipe) is selected when the GPU is perceived as not being able to supply 3D acceleration. *Some* have reported that reinstalling the xorg app has corrected the problem.

I thought might be something like that. How do I reinstall xorg app? This might be one of those things that occasionally come up when the user builds their own PC instead of buying a brand name.

You can use synaptic or muon and right click on xorg and choose "reinstall", then click "Apply". Or, you try the CLI:
                    sudo apt install --reinstall xorg
