    Upgrade Firefox

Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask this question - can't get any sense out of the Firefox websites
I have Firefox V54 and it doesn't automatically update.
Have downloaded firefox-60.0.2(1).tar.bz2 and have extracted it to a new folder.
    What now?

You could also install from the appropriate repository for your Linux distro.

Look in your software manager, for instance Muon, Synaptic or just "Software Manager", search for Firefox and check the version which is being offered for installation.

I"m using Linux Mint and the Mint repository has Firefox 60.0.2 available.

Thanks for the replies. Synaptic shows v54.
Was hoping to upgrade so avoiding to backup and recover things. Presumably 'install' means a fresh install without inheriting all my settings etc

Either way should retain your profile. Do you have a Firefox account? (Have you signed in and created a transferable profile?)

My installation of Synaptic shows FF Ver. 60.0.2. That is due to the difference in Which repositories you have configured for your distro.

Which distro are you currently using? Does it have a generic Software Manager installed?

apt-cache will show what versions are available (with repo parts you have enabeld) and where they are coming from , like so

                Code:
                vinny@vinny-Bonobo-Extreme:~$ apt-cache policy firefox
                firefox:
                Installed: 1:59.0.1+build1-0ubuntu0.16.04.2
                Candidate: 1:59.0.1+build1-0ubuntu0.16.04.2
                Version table:
                *** 1:59.0.1+build1-0ubuntu0.16.04.2 500
                   500 http://ppa.launchpad.net/plasmazilla/releases/ubuntu xenial/main amd64 Packages
                   100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
                60.0.1+build2-0ubuntu0.16.04.1 500

                   500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/main amd64 Packages
note my forefox-59 is coming from the plasmazilla PPA but the firefox-60 is shown as available from
                Code:

16.10 is no longer supported, so you won't get updates on anything, not just Firefox.

If you open the tar file with Ark you can extract the firefox directory and its contents to /home/name/, and then edit the KMenu to create an entry for FireFox.

The line in blue is the one you want to link to in your KMenu setting.

PS- Just noticed that you are running 16.10. Not a good idea to run non LTS versions unless you want to help test or enjoy installing Kubuntu every 4 or 8 months.
