And another side note :
If you want to upgrade your Kubuntu 20.04 LTS to Kubuntu 22.04 LTS make sure that
-> Discover -> Settings -> Software Sources -> Updates -> Release upgade -> Show new distribution releases: is set to -> "Long term support releases only"
before you sudo do-release-upgrade -m desktop .Debian KDE & LXQt • Kubuntu & Lubuntu • openSUSE KDE • Windows • macOS X
Desktop: Lenovo ThinkCentre M75s • Laptop: Apple MacBook Pro 13" • and others
get rid of Snap script (20.04 +) • reinstall Snap for release-upgrade script (20.04 +)
install traditional Firefox script (22.04 +) • install traditional Thunderbird script (24.04)

Are you in fact running 20.04 on the machine you are having this issue with, and for which you are posting here, in 22.04? Assuming 'yes', then grrrr.
Posting about an EOL version of Kubuntu in a supported forum (22.04) 'muddys the waters' and is simply bad form. EOL release forums in KFN are CLOSED for a reason. I should CLOSE this thread if you are in fact on 20.04. But, I'll just move it (this time) to Kubuntu Catchall.Windows no longer obstructs my view.

it simply might not be possible to upgrade any longer.
....nope, my new 20.04 VM is actually prompting me to upgrade
Go to your Driver Manager in Systewm Settings, then go to the Updates tab and make sure that the settings look like mine, as the Black Kitten has mentioned:
