Canonical being silly again - Can this not be in Kubuntu, please?

Hi, I'm running Kubuntu 18.04, and I would like to OPT-IN to the data collection stuff. I know ubuntu propper has a dialogue on the first run. How would I got about doing that in Kubuntu

The default is opt-in. Opting out is the trick.

In Konsole:

sudo apt install ubuntu-report
ubuntu-report

for sending your system details.

For sending weekly details of everything installed on your computer over an unsecure connection, click the checkbox shown in a screenshot on the previous page of this thread.

If you really want to help the developers, send them an email with system information. You then control exactly what info is added to their database (including your email...). You owe it to them to help prevent their own movement toward the "dark side".

Personally, I'm not sending them my data.

My statement was "If you really want to help the developers, ...". Some people feel obligated to offer assistance. I propose an option which reduces the loss of privacy. Not eliminate it, but at least the individual retains control of their data.

It is totally up to each individual, unlike the default to use an opt-out switch in the OS.

Looking through arguably meaningless data take them away from developing regardless of format.

If people want to knowingly install a program and do something then whatever but in the context of the world today, I think any sort of data sharing should be warned against and not normalised. However innocuous.

Think of it as a pressure release mechanism in a society which is under increasing pressure to Conform.

Somebody has to hit the button to vent that overpressure or the system could well explode. History teaches this.

Be aware, when a mechanism is blocked, whether by under or overzealous "pressure monitors" or a failure of the original design (I give you Facebook(r) ), the back pressure leads to a mechanism which explodes or collapses from lack of support (I give you OS/2 and AOL).

Rather than "agree to disagree", instead support your local chapter of malcontents and curmudgeons in their effort to "stir the pot". Active enrollment programs are always offered, free of charge.

We have the best of intentions, ie. to make people aware of potential potholes in the road or, worst case, a roadway which has already collapsed directly ahead (again, I give you social media, exemplified by Facebook(r) but not limited to them alone).

Keep stirring! The... uh... "Stuff", keeps flowing and it must be dealt with. The alternative is to find ourselves hip deep in "stuff" without even a paddle, let alone a canoe.

The linked post above is a suggestion for a change from a user and has nothing to do with current reality. Posting this from a new and fully updated Kubuntu 18.04 installation and popcon is not installed.

I would post a screen-shot proving this for the paranoid crowd, but kdialog simply isn't working at this point - an example of why I typically wait before using a new Kubuntu release.
