I just tried to get lubuntu16.04. I figured I'd get both so I could help with the bit torrents for a bit. Unfortunately...

    Lubuntu-16.04.2-desktop-amd64 and i386.so
Error:Requested download is not authorized for use with this tracker.
    .

I got 14.04. Will I be able to upgrade to 16.04?
Just to remind users and devs that Ubuntu and its flavors have a long way to go to be as usr friendly as they should be.

lubuntu 14.04 wasn't able to configure the wifi either. I didn't install it because I might need something from Kubuntu 14.04 and unlike the Live DVD the installer can see the BTRFS, but it doesn’t see the installed system. It thinks the BTRFS partition is empty. I can use the file manager in the live DVD to see the installed files. Why can't the installer see them?

Vector Linux is alive and well - http://vectorlinux.com/downloads - and even has a small but current community forum. It probably doesn't run BTRFS, but really how important could that be on a lightweight Linux distro anyway ...

I ran Vector Linux Light 7.0 on my old IBM T20 until it finally bit the dust a couple of months ago. And it was nice!!

You might try Q4OS - which just had a new release. It's specifically made for older hardware and just has a new version come out yesterday. It uses Trinity, which is a fork of KDE 3.

System is distinguished by speed and very low hardware requirements, runs great on brand new machines as well as legacy computers. It is also very applicable for virtualization and cloud computing.

The 16.04 repos do have the three b43 packages. I've never seen a distro that doesn't have the major ethernet drivers baked in which would allow plugging into an ethernet network and grabbing the b43 packages. I know you have tried to do that.
