    [MULTI BOOT] New laptop

I just bought a HP Pavilion with an I5 processor and 12 gigs ram and 1 TB hard disk. It, of course, has windows 10 on it and I would like to dual boot with kubuntu 16.04. In order to get the USB flash drive to boot, I had to enable the Legacy Support option in the bios System Configuration. I also had to change the Legacy Boot Order by moving 'USB Diskette on Key/USB Hard Disk' option the top of the list. Now I was able to re-boot and press Esc during the boot to enable a short menu that allowed me to select F9 which allowed me to select the USB flash drive as the boot device. Took a while to figure out the steps, but the USB drive successfully booted and allowed me to begin the install.

I am unsure of how to proceed, however. When I get to the step where I select the disk partitioning options, I selected the option 'Guided - resize SCSI1 (0,0,0), partition #3 (sda) and use freed space". This appears to carve out some space for Kubuntu, but is that all I have to do? I have seen some online stuff saying I have to repartition the space using a windows utility. Is this true?

Any help will be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

As you haven't done anything yet, stop. Reboot into Windows 10 and use it's utility to Shrink the HDD it occupies. If you don't, there won't be any real space on the HDD to install Linux. Windows 'reserves' the entire HDD, even though it isn't actually using all of it. That's why you must shrink the Windows volume before you attempt to install Linux.
Windows no longer obstructs my view.
