    Kubuntu and Firefox problems

Ok, I am having problems opening and or saving files through firefox, as well as not being able to see the tooltips. I posted this on Mozilla support, and was told the issue is a known bug. Here's the link to that: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/qu...#answer-899447

I am running Kubuntu 14.04 x64, and Firefox is version 47.0 downloaded through Muon.

To better understand this, I have made a video showing the problem. (sorry for the swearing, I was quite frustrated) https://youtu.be/s2OvmM4ZZLg

Is there a solution to this yet, or am I better off waiting and continuing to use Chromium? Most of the info you would need is either in the first link, or the video, but if you need more info, I will gladly provide it.

Yes. I have also had this problem. So far, I manage to get things to "go right" by clicking on whatever it takes to click on (like "home" in a path, and then going from there). Using 14.04 (a great OS!) and Firefox 47.0.

The tooltips fix worked, (thanks!) still can't navigate within the files though.

You'll have to switch to a different gtk3 theme as the stock oxygen-gtk3 theme does not work properly with firefox's recent changes.

I find the Arc GTK theme seems to work well

The navigation problems in Firefox v47 were discussed a month ago here: https://www.kubuntuforums.net/showth...runs-like-crap

I found a workaround for the problem in that thread: https://www.kubuntuforums.net/showth...l=1#post389565

Hope that works until Mozilla comes up with a more permanent solution.

THANK YOU! This fixed it! Will wait to see what Mozilla offers in the future. I will also post a link on the Mozilla forum so they can see this, for others experiencing it.

As much as I love Firefox...I've been using Kubuntu since 2009 and I can tell you that Mozilla has NEVER worried about how well it plays with KDE. It's quite disappointing. I know historically it is because Ubuntu, the no. 1 Linux distro in the world, has been GTK+ based. However every user poll I've seen over the last several years listing DE's by popularity has always had KDE Plasma as the no. 1 used distro worldwide. Knowing this, why don't they at least follow Canonical's lead and write the GUI in Qt? Then problem solved in any DE environment. It's almost to the point that KDE should fork Firefox to use the underlying code but with a Qt GUI. I'm aware that there are a number of Qt-based browsers out there, but realistically they have no shot at ever gaining traction - anyone still use rekonq? I rest my case. Also in the past Blue Systems has patched Firefox to work with KDE's dialogs and file pickers but it appears the inertia for that has stopped - there has not been an update in a few years now.

                    TL/DR
Don't hold your breath for Mozilla to care about how Firefox plays with KDE - If it hasn't happened by now, it's likely never going happen.
