file.xxx~ creates automaticly

Hi!

Why does it create a backupfile when I save a file?

ex.
If I save a file with the name index.php. It creates a file with the name index.php~.

Does it have to do that?

You mean the kate editor?

Creating a backup can be a nice feature, but you can disable it in kate's settings:
Settings>Configure Kate>Open/Save
