Opera not in Muon must I do an apt-get to install it

I could swear that when I was running 14.04 LTS that Opera was in Muon but maybe not.

Must I do an apt-get install opera terminal command to get Opera installed.

Can I get Opera into Muon for future updates, etc.

    Currently using Kubuntu12.04 LTS

Opera is not officially available via a repo in Muon, as far as I know. It won't matter if you are using Muon or apt-get (they are the same thing under the skin).

You can go and download it, it comes as a debian/ubuntu deb file you can double-click to install, but you will not get updates in your package manager.

        Opera

The Opera browser can be downloaded from the http://www.opera.com .

The Opera is available as the Debian package. The Debian package has a postinst script. The scrip will add the Opera to the /etc/apt/sources.list.d/opera.list. After installation the Opera will be show in the package management system and the the updates will be available.

Opera script as example - AskUbuntu - How can I create a .deb file that adds a repository to sources.list.d?: http://askubuntu.com/questions/19443...sources-list-d

          Got it.

So from what I take the scrip will add it to the management system without any manual commands.

I only have 7.5 gigs of HD remaining and Opera says that it will be a 145 MIB install. Not sure if I want to do it and I am surprised at the size of the install. Although FF my current browser could be just as big, I just don't remember.

I I think that installing Opera with the .deb file also installs it's PPA ,,,,,,so ,,,,you will get updates.

Hm? That is quite a difference in mib's.

I need to use Opera for a proprietary site that I use in my business and it doesn't play well with Firefox. I know it is weird but it is so.

I'm not a fan of Chrome. I guess I could always use my desktop for accessing the business site and save HD space on the old laptop.

Maybe it doesn't matter for you, but there are two Operas at the moment for Linux. And they are completely different.
The old one is stable, but hasn't been updated for about a year now. It uses presto as rendering engine and has a lot of things that made Opera Opera.
The new one is still in beta and uses Blink as rendering machine and has almost everything removed that made Opera Opera. Blink is the same rendering machine as Chromium and Google Chrome use. This new version is still in beta, but I've read it's pretty stable by now.
On this page you can download the old version, but there's a link to the new version too.
Edit: if I promise a link, I should give it...

It does matter. I would like the older Opera, I like the older Opera stuff better than the new stuff.

Went to the link but couldn't find anything for AMD64. The package sniffs out that I am AMD 64 and it tells me that I can't install.
Now that I know about an older app, I'll try to find one for AMD 64.

I am not famaliar on how to install from a tar file. I extracted to a folder (opera-12.16-1860.x86_64.linux) and can start Opera using the Opera file. It loads and works without installing

I am not sure if anything was installed or if it is just working out of the extracted folder.

I've just stumbled on this article about Vivaldi. It's what Opera 15 should have been, the makers say. It's available for Linux too, link in the article.
It uses Blink, just like Opera, but it's aiming to look more like the 'old' Opera.
