Lost my home files with vivid alpha2

I ran the live version of vivid alpha 2 from a usb. The desktop never loaded so I had to a hard shutdown. I did nothing else.

Booting into my default desktop, I noticed that all my non-hidden dirs were gone.

Odd. I hope you're not using the PC right now - better chance of recovery if you leave it alone. Do you have another bootable install or USD/CD ?

Details on the system? Filesystem type, partitioning scheme, etc...

I had a backup of my /home and 99% of my data is on a separate partition anyway. But yes it is strange and I have seen this one.

No, no other live cd/USB here. Am on the road with this machine.

filesystem ist ext4, system is kubuntu 14.10 and OS, /home, /data/media, etc are on separate partitions.

So you link to the other partitions from home and its these partitions that are gone or just the folders on these partitions?

No, all partitions are setarate and not linked in any way. I should have been more specific, sorry.

Actually it is not even /home that was affected but /home/user1.

This is user for my default installation. /home/user2 was not affected. Strange stuff.
