Ark refuses to open rar/zip files

Hello, last month upgraded from 12.04 to 12.10 and has been great.

Yet beeen having this annoying problem with Ark and the problem is that its totally random, sometimes it refuses to open and/or created rar and zip files, just to even display them to show the contents, ark freezes forever with a 'Loading archive message at the bottom right corner' and stays forever like that until i close the application, again this happens with zip and rar files the same and yes, this also happens when I create them with dolphin, like right clicking a file/folder>compress>as zip or rar file.

Stuff i have done so far:

-reinstalled rar and unrar - no change
-removed/ rar and unrar - no change
-removed unrar - no change
- removed/ rar and unrar, reinstalled ark - no change

I can use rar to create or unpack rar files and works fine but it always takes a lot of time.

Im totally stuck now, any ideas?

I find Archive Manager better, there is also Squeeze, haven't tried it but have it installed. I have p7zip-full installed too but can't seem to find the menu item for it. I find if I have a problem with a file type, I install practically everything associated with it, that usually works for me, some program packages act as 'back-ends' for the main ones.

Edit: Try installing this too... p7zip-rar.

Perhaps something in Ark's settings got messed up. Uninstall Ark including all settings files (it's called "Complete uninstall" in Synaptic). Same goes for "unrar" and "rar".
After you're done, reinstall "unrar" (not "unrar-free") and "rar" (if you want to create rar archives) and see if it works.

If it doesn't, you can try out a different archiver, e.g. Peazip: http://peazip.org/

Done and done as i said up there, didnt work.

used the muon package manager to do the uninstall, dunno if its the same.
