    create usb install disk

    Hello,

I had a computer crash and want to reinstall everything.

I installed Kubuntu 12.10 and this works fine.
I'm used to install OS from a usb stick.
For writing Kubuntu on a stick, i use unetbootin. I'm happy with it, but i read it does not work to Windows.

I have some programs that only run under windows. Therefor, i use a dual boot. I want to reinstall my windows, but only have an iso. I don't want to write it on a dvd, but simple use it as i'm used with linux.
What program can i use to write windows on a usb stick from within Kubuntu?

I know that old windows versions wrote their own MBR...
What is the best way to make it dual boot? I found some information about restoring Grub(2), but also about modifying the MBR of windows...

    Already thanks!

As far as I know unetbootin does write a Windows iso to USB, so you should be fine there.

My suggestion is to install Windows first then install Kubuntu, so you will not have to worry about the mbr as Kubuntu will handle the dual boot for you by installing the grub bit loader.

This suggests it is possible to use unetbootin to do it.

Last time I did this I didn't use unetbootin but following something like this instead. (format as ntfs, copy files from the image, install the ms boot loader with ms-sys)
