If Kubuntu has a new sponsor will it disappear from Canonical sites?

Kubuntu can rightly appear on official Canonical sites at the moment:

    http://ubuntuforums.org/
    https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu
    http://askubuntu.com/

The name will probably remain the same - "Kubuntu Likely To Retain Name Despite New Sponsor" - http://omgubuntu.co.uk/2012/05/kubun...e-new-sponsor/

...But...if it has a new sponsor...presumably it will disappear from Canonical/Ubuntu help sites?

...Where will the OFFICIAL Kubuntu forum be?

These forums have nothing to do with the Kubuntu sponsors.

The name change concept is a proposed way to keep Kubuntu as a recognized flavour (and thus continuing use of Ubuntu's infrastructure) while still allowing third parties to offer services such as support contracts. Blue Systems is not one of those seeking to be able to do this, btw. So as it stands, things are staying the same as they are now. We get to stand beside Xubuntu, Edubuntu. Ubuntu Studio, Lubuntu, and Mythbuntu. The sponsoring of developers does not change this.

I think one distinction to note is that Blue Systems are sponsoring developers, as opposed to the direct sponsorship of the distro. This is a small but important distinction, I believe.

And yes, KFN is a separate entity altogether so anything that happens between all the parties involved has zero effect here.

Claydoh, I'd say this is actually a very important distinction, not small at all. If more people understood the difference between sponsoring developers vs. sponsoring the distro, perhaps much of the hand-wringing speculation would simply evaporate.

And yet if you go to the forums link on the kubuntu.org site it brings you these forums.

Yes it does, but see the statement in the footer of each page here at KFN
We may be considered the main place for forum based support, but we are still 100% independent Community and all that goodness coming together.......

....also note that the support section also links to Ubuntu forums.

I understand that KubuntuForums is a separate entity from Kubuntu, but as long as Kubuntu says it is the official forum, it is the official forum. It doesn't matter if it has it's own governance or not. Likewise, the official bug tracker for Kubuntu is launchpad -- which also is not controlled by Kubuntu.

Many distros have their "official" forums hosted by someone else so the limited development staff can focus on the distro and not running a forum. As to whether there is a formal agreement or not outlining the relationship between Kubuntu and KubuntuForums, that is a different story, I don't know. But officially, Kubuntu points people here for support through a forum type interface.

For the record, I am not affiliated with either Kubuntu or KubuntuForums, so all of that is my opinion and not an official statement of either entity.

It would be fair to say that we; Kubuntu Forums; are the 'unofficial' official Kubuntu Forums.

Or maybe the official unoffical forums.
