Back-ups (Sorted)

Urm I think this is Ok in this forum as it is not particularly important/urgent!

Any way I currently back up my /home to a remote drive using 'lucky-backup' prior to which I run 'bleachbit (root) to clear out any rubbish.

However I also have a spare hard drive on the system itself and I am thinking about backing up the entire Kubuntu set-up that I have whilst still maintaining the above option.

Does anyone else do this and if so what application/s do you use.?

rsync, fsarchiver, dd are CLI tools used for this process with any given live CD. Clonezilla and Partimage are good curses/GUI tools. DejaDup is pretty awesome for backing up an online partition, ala /home. The easiest thing is to download a rescue CD ala Partition Magic or System Rescue CD, which contain all the backup and restore applications. I use fsarchiver to backup my root partition monthly, and I simply periodically (ie at no given interval) copy paste stuff from ~ to external media, as I'm too lazy to go through a regular backup.

you might want to give kbackup a try , when it opens you can select a folder and place to back up to and click "start backup" its a simple backup program.

I use rdiff-backup but if you're trying to re-create your install or create a parallel bootable backup you might want clonezilla or to use dd.

Hi,

Happy New Year.

I'm trying Kbackup at the moment but for some reason it cannot write the 'tar' to the selected folder. Something about permissions but I am investigating as everything seems to be ok!

EDIT: So here we are on Jan 20th. Finally sorted out the minor glitch and Kbackup runs very well and quite fast too.
