    Re: The default Kubuntu browser

I agree. That is a somewhat arbitrary limitation. That said, some of us have to deal with download caps and bandwidth issues. Anything very big I have to download at night. A CD takes about an hour. A full DVD takes most of the night.

I like the idea of having a minimal install, enough to get a working system. Making it fit on a CD is an arbitrary limit, but it would be nice to keep it within some kind of reasonable bounds for the bandwidth challenged. And it would be nice to also have a more or less giant economy size install medium for those who are REALLY bandwidth challenged. Going that route, making the first a CD full (or less) and the second a DVD full, makes a lot of sense to me.

Debian used to do something like that. Their full install was six or eight CDs. The first disk would get you a working server or desktop. Order the whole set and you could install pretty much anything you wanted without ever having to go online if you couldn't or didn't want to.
linux since slack 2. kde since beta 1. kubuntu since hardy.

I use whatever I feel like using at the time but mostly Opera as I find it easier to synchronise bookmarks, browser hiostory and other settings between different installations and OSs. I can even share some of those settings with Opera Mini on my mobile phone.

Interestingly, a recent article at The Register shows that Chrome is now more popular than Firefox, presumably a figure measured across all operating systems.

I had been using Firefox since it was available but I changed to Chromium for the following reasons:
        • When I went to youtube I could not display the video, I could only download it. I tried numerous approaches without success.
        • I would get emails with web addresses that involved opening a pdf file. Even though I had Acroread defined in Firefox>Preferences>Applications it did not open the file. Even copying the web address from the email did not work!

Needless to say all of these problems disappeared with Chromium and it is now my default Browser.

I must say that it took me a little while to realize that the settings for Chromium are available by selecting the spanner at the top right hand corner of the browser. I have found a truckload of extensions from there in Preferences>Extensions.

Re: bundling, my suggestion would be to provide two .ISOs:
          • A "minimal" build, one that includes elements necessary to install a functioning OS, get on a network, browse the web, and set up email
          • A "full" build, including all the other elements that a particular distro wishes to include

This eliminates the arbitrary "must fit on a CD" limit and also helps those in bandwidth-constrained locations obtain only what they need without downloading too much extra stuff.
          +1 on that.

Running Firefox, but iHeartRadio will not work under Firefox. However ReKonq happily runs it, so it works for me.

Have downloaded Chrome on the netbook, but really haven't played with it much.

I'm sure it's just a setting somewhere on the system, but I don't have the time and/or energy to go hunting for it. It's simple enough to fire up rekonq, so I just do that, and it gets me to check out another browser.
