I know that some one has seen the freeze.com animated Christmas tree for windows and I have asked this before of others but is there such a creature for Kubuntu?

For something specific to KDE you might want to poke around in kde-look.org. There may be something under the Plasmoids or KDE Improvements sections in the left column navigation.

there used to be a christmas tree and also, I think, a globe plasmoid. The problem is whether they are packeged as .debs or rpms(use alien) or source and whether they have been maintained through the various changes since they were initially made, but looking around is a good idea.
