Popularity of ATI, nVidia, and Intel graphics

Although the place sometimes receives overly harsh criticism, I find the Phoronix site and discussion forums to be reasonably informative. After all, it's been one of the more educational places for learning how to work around the bothersome power regressions of late.

Anyway...I just noticed something curious in the forum section on Linux graphics. Check out the attached screenshot and compare the numbers of posts and threads for various graphics products. If for some reason the image doesn't work for you, today's numbers are:

    AMD
    nVidia
    Intel
    threads|
    4,136
    660
    426
    posts|
    63,728
    7,748

I've summed the numbers for AMD/nVidia open-source and proprietary.

Clearly, at least among those who frequent Phoronix, AMD attracts the greatest attention. Yet, anecdotally at least, I seem to harbor the notion that people gripe about AMD far more often. So I wonder what's going on here? Is AMD very popular, and therefore frequently discussed? Or is AMD simply the worst of the bunch, and therefore accrues the greatest amount of complaints?

Re: Popularity of ATI, nVidia, and Intel graphics

lets look at that list shall we...

Nvidia.. Properitary driver and a reverse engineered driver for open source.

intel: they have a open driver for all their cards, problem is they make horrible cards for anything other then basic desktop (including effects..). im not susprised to see low posts for these, most of them "just work".

Ati: Properitary Driver. and an AMD supported open source driver. what can i say .they got a bad rep in the past , in the last 4 years they have been providing info to the community for their stuff. in this respect i would say taht ati is the best choice for linux machines. idk why we get so many posts here i personally have installed many many kubuntu installs on variety of hardware ati has been good from my experance.
