Re: Kubuntu on mini pc. Witch kubuntu should i try. Intel Atom cpu 1gb ram?
I use the last version, Kubuntu Natty with Intel Atom, 1 GB RAM on my netbook, see my signature. It is fast enough, start in 1 min 25 sec, after start it takes about 250 MB RAM. Can recommend.
Kubuntu 16.04 on two computers and Kubuntu 17.04 on DELL Latitude 13

Same here but with 2GB RAM and a fast (for a netbook) mechanical hard drive. I have desktop search and PIM functions disabled and the netbook uses about 190mb or RAM at boot. It runs Kubuntu just fine.
The hard drive in your eMachines box is most likely faster than the average netbook hard drive - it shoud run just fine.
edit: My netbook boots from grub to desktop in 40 seconds. When I get my SSD back from the manufacturer it should boot quicker than that - I think dibl's netbook with an SSD boots in about half a minute

John, replace the 1 GB RAM chip with a 2GB RAM chip ($28 at Amazon) and Win7 will get reasonably fast. Kubuntu will fly.

It is normal Kubuntu on the netbook. You can switch between two desktops netbook desktop / normal desktop anytime you want. The days with special netbook remix are gone.

It doesn't take that long -- grub menu to KDM greeter is 16 seconds.
It is a Toshiba NB205 (Intel Atom N280), which I upgraded to 2G of memory. The SSD is a OCZ Vertex 2. It's a great little machine -- the only drawback, which is applicable to many/most netbooks, is the poor audio volume and quality from the tiny speakers, especially for old hard-of-hearing guys. But with headphones, I've had no problems running skype on it.

Wise decision! 8)
The download site depends on which version you want.
The Long Term Support version, 10.04 LTS, is here.
The Maverick release, 10.10, is here.
The Natty release, 11.04, is here.
Still in Alpha-1 release, and not one I'd recommend, is Oneiric, 11.10, which is here.
IF you are after the latest and greatest and want to run on the edge the Oneiric is the one.
IF you want more stability but with the latest KDE4 desktop (4.6.3) then Natty is the one.
There's not a good reason for choosing Maverick IF Natty runs OK on your box.
Lucid Lynx, the version I run, is the most stable, tested and reliable release. Being LTS, it will be supported on the desktop for another year and on the server for another three years.

I don't know if Windows has an option to create a LiveUSB or not. IF you are running another version of Linux it may have a "Startup Disk Creator" option in its "System" menu which can be used to create a LiveUSB. Otherwise, your best option is to burn a CD to create a LiveCD.
