New Release Schedule & LTS vs 11.04

    Hello All,
I've been a Ubuntu user for a few years and have just recently decided to try Kubuntu. You can count me among those that aren't real pleased with decisions regarding Gnome 3 and it's implementation in Ubuntu.
My questions are: Are updates/revisions done in kubuntu in the same time-frame as Ubuntu. Likewise, are clean installs of the updates the preferred method.
I chose to install 11.04 because, as I understand it, the latest version of KDE is included. Does this make sense for a new user or, would it make better sense for me to revert to ver. 10.04?
    Thanks for any input.

Kubuntu = 'buntu with the KDE desktop.
Ubuntu = 'buntu with the Unity/Gnome desktop.

Both have the same half year release cycle.

The Kubuntu is releasing the KDE updates from the PPA repositories. > Kubuntu.Org >> KDE Release 4.6.3.

The KDE 4.6.X could move to the Ubuntu updates when it has been tested by the PPA users. An exaple, the 4.5.5 for the Kubuntu 10.10 was released first from the PPA > KDE Releases 4.5.5 and later moved to the maverick-updates > 4.5.5 in maverick-updates.

Likewise, are clean installs of the updates the preferred method.
I'm using the clean installations. I have separate root, home and data partitons > FAQ: How to Partition.
Having a separate partition for /home is always a good idea, since it lets you reinstall your system without losing valuable personal data. This can be especially useful in a distro like Ubuntu, where users have the chance to upgrade their install quite often (every six months) and might want to perform a clean install to avoid potential problems...

    Well - it depends

If the 11.04 is working with your hardware then it is the good option. Here the 11.04 is the snappiest of the new Kubuntus (KDE4 /Qt4).

Here the 10.04 did have a bad kernel for my hardware - it was slow. A workaround was to use a kernel from the 10.10.

      Thanks, Rog.
I'm still learning my way around Kubuntu but, so far, I like it.
Being as 11.04 seems to run fine on my desktop, I'll stick with it. Not sure about my laptop, though.
Thanks also for the link to partitions. I've read about it and just never got around to separate partitions for "Home", etc..
