Re: does intel graphics media accelator sufficiant for kubuntu 3d graphics?
The ATI Radeon X1200 graphic chip in that "Xlpora" is FOUR years old and ATI has already moved it to their "legacy archive", meaning that their latest driver, Catalyst 10.2, will not support it. IF you get the legacy driver and attempt to install it you will receive a msg saying it does not support the newer kernel. So, users have to default to a 2.6.25 or earlier kernel, and accept all of its limitations, or run the radeon driver and accept its limitations, which usually means inadequate or no acceleration or 3D support.
If the user is not interested in playing on SecondLife, or using Stellarium or Google Earth, or playing TuxRacer, then it will probably be an ok machine. The ad says it is "ideal for interacting online", which it probably is. IF emailing, facebook, browsing and playing videos is your thing this is probably an inexpensive way to get into the game.
I am suspicious that the "Xlpora" is NOT a new computer but is "reconditioned", hence the lowball price and the absence of a pre-installed OS. They will be glad to install Win7 home or Pro for an additional $80 or 110 more, but that would turn that underpowered machine into a boat anchor.
