    "scaning routine drives" during bootup?

Hello, new to this forum and ubuntu..got a couple of quick ones:

    1) When I am booting up I get "Scanning routing drives" message and it start scann some drives. I can hit "esc" to skip this but I need to bypass this scan altogether. Any tips?

    2) also after bootup I get a login screen where I have to type user and pw. Is there a way to auto login?

I am using a a linux box to do some testing of PCIE boards in a manufacturing setting which involes constant rebooting of the machine and I want to make it as "automated" as possible to avoid cycle time.

    Thanks!

#1) Your supposed to get a scan every 30 boots by default (I think). tune2fs is the utility that scans. You can use to change both the number of bootups between filesystem checks, and the number of days/weeks/months between filesystem checks.

For example to have the filesystem checked once every 60 bootups use
      $sudo tune2fs -c 60

To have the filesystem check run periodically, say once a week, use
      $sudo tune2fs -i 1w
changing the “w” to “d” or “m” will have the check run once daily and once monthly – you get the idea.

Arh yes but you don't 'click' system administration - I'm not being pedantic I hope?

Thanks all, I got the login issue resolved.

with regard to the tune2fs command. I open a terminal window and type in:

sudo tune2fs -c for exmaple, 1st I am prompted for root pw..no problem but then it just gives me the tune2fs "help", ie all the command options like -i, -c-, -C, etc. It's not taking the command. When I reboot, I still get the scan!

Are you specifying the drive, eg /dev/sda6?

Also, you can get info on what the state is by:
                    sudo tune2fs -l /dev/sda6
A quick way to see what drives you have is:
                    sudo fdisk -l

Sorry if this is obvious, I came in late here.
