As long as it's an optional package and everyone can decide for themselves if they want it installed... Don't care.

Unfortunately you can't decide for yourself because it it release specific. I would like to install it, but it is not available for me.

Not so. See “popularity-contest” package in Ubuntu

                BTHW with canonacal-census installed doing:
                Code:
                sudo update-initramfs -u
                will give:
                fintan@fintanws2:~$ sudo update-initramfs -u

                  Re: Canonical calliing home?

I find that 'interesting.' I 'turned on' the feature (see Reply #26) on August 22, and I've had a kernel update since then (August 26), and I didn't have any problem with the system updating initramfs.

                    Re: Canonical calliing home?

I voted I like the idea, because I don't see Canonical being an evil company. If I did I wouldn't be using their products.

Now if it were perhaps Microsoft or Google, I would have seconds thoughts. Not that their evil either, just second thoughts.

                      Re: Canonical calling home?

I personally make no bones about my preferences: "Linux FTW", if you ask me directly.

If you read my sigs in forum posts, I usually keep them updated, so there you go again, I'm telling you directly.

OTOH, Nepomuk got yanked because I do not KNOW what is being passed back to .... wherever that semantic desktop data is going, I do not KNOW if every bit is securely transmitted, and finally, I was not ASKED if I wanted this erstwhile feature added to my system.

I left M$ for many reasons, including because I was not liking the 'phone home' thing in Windows Media Player back in my W98SE days (and M$ keeps adding the phone home things to other software), so why in #$%@ would I want to let Canonical just decide for itself what actions are acceptable in my behalf?

Not what I wanted to read tonight.
