    Applications simultaniously using the soundcard

I've been out of using Linux as a sound recording/editing for a while, but now getting back in. Needless to say I can't find many things that I was used to (5 years ago). So here two questions:

    1) what is good up-to-date info on what and how the state of audio under Linux/KDE is? I need a good source.

    2) I need to get two applications working with the same sound card, namely Fldigi to do its thing and then another application to run in the background to record the whole session. I used JACK for this kind of thing, but fldigi is no JACK application. Any workaround?

    Cheers,

    Hans

I am NOT a musician, but I have been told by some who are that "rosegarden" is pretty good. Open your favorite package manager (probably Synaptic) and search "Description and Name">Music. On Kubuntu-Lucid-64 bit, I get 475 hits, (mostly irrelevant).

IF you can get pulseaudio to work, it should allow you to access the soundcard simultaneously.

I had better results without pulseaudio drivers but I don't use audio for work - just video/music and skype.
