    Anyone using XMPP?

I'm completely new to XMPP, but I went to Jabber.org and got an account, then went looking for a client. I first tried cabber but discovered it wasn't supported any more. So I went to mcabber but couldn't really figure it out. It worked, but I forgot what I did. Finally I got a really good looking one called GNU freetalk and I think I'll stick with that.

Does anybody know how to use freetalk? hehe I got it working and plan to stick with it, but the man page reads like a wiring diagram for a 747 when all you want is to buy a ticket. I just don't understand XMPP yet. The net has been useless so far. If anyone has experience with this protocol and could give me a few hints, or point me to a how-to, I would be grateful.

OK, so GNU freetalk may be a bit terse for most people, but surely there must be some XMPP users here who have a hint or two for me.

XMPP goes way beyond the Jabber server. Google Talk is using it. With their gateway to ICQ, it looks like AOL is adopting it, and now Facebook is coming on board. Since it's over 10 years old now, I figured it was about time that I caught up with it. Especially considering it's flexibility and that it's an open standard with open source server which supports peer to peer communication, encryption, voIP and more.
