    Problems with fluxbox

Alright first a disclaimer, first I'm not sure i this is the right board for this or not, sorry if it's the wrong one. Second I am a linux noob and this is my first time working with linux, only reason I'm doing this is for a school project.

My problem is that I can not get Fluxbox to run. I am fairly certain that I built it from source correctly. I have tried all of the methods listed on the Fluxbox wiki for adding it to the session list but none of them work, Google has been equally fruitless. When I tried adding through Kcontrol I could not find a tab to add Fluxbox to the session list. When I try to edit the KDMRC file the session types line is missing, and whenever I try to edit the .xsessions file I am told that I do not have the permissions to edit said file.

page with the three ways I have tried: http://fluxbox-wiki.org/index.php?ti...ssions_menu.3F

I have looked at your post a few times and I am left with the question "What is s/he trying to do?"

    I'm just not sure.

Normally you would access fluxbox by on your splash screen, where, at the beginning, you put in your username and password. You simply choose a different "sesssion" - in this case fluxbox.

Does this work? Are you trying to do something more complicated? What?

I firstly wonder what drop down menu you think it will appear in. GDM and KDM are the Gnome and KDE session managers. So you can't put it in your Kubuntu/ KDE Desktop menus.

Do you have Synaptic Package Manager? If you don't then install it. Connect to the internet, open Konsole Terminal Program and issue the command:
        sudo apt-get install synaptic
When you have Synaptic Package Manager do a search for:
        fluxbox
. If it isn't installed according to Synaptic then tick the box and install it.

Fluxbox should appear on your Splash page as I said. If nothing seems to appear, except the cursor, then try a RIGHT click...

More problems now, after trying every thing I can not figure out how to change the background for Fluxbox, I have tried editing the overlay but that has not helped.
