Convert .ape (Monkey's lossless audio) ?

Hi,
I have a bunch of .ape files and I would like to compress them to ogg or mp3, to save space.
Usually I'm using soundKonverter, but it seems it can't handle .ape...
I googled and only found some obscure references to a command line tool called mac... but no .deb or anything (I'm running 64bit jaunty).
Does anyone know how to convert .ape-files to anything else?
