    power management

    Hi,
I am using Kubuntu 8.04 on my Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop. The problem i am facing is that my laptop battery discharges very quickly. When my laptop is fully charged in Kubuntu it is discharged in 1.5hrs for the textual applications while it works for 4hrs in Windows Vista.............
so what should i do? any special configuration needed? or any software tool/power management specific to kubuntu is available?

    thanks

    Re: power management

Please forgive me if you have already tried this. Go to K>"System Settings">Advanced>"Power Management". You probably want the "Edit Profiles" section.

Note: I am running 9-04 on 2 machines and 9-10 on another, so the labels may not be exactly the same in 8-04, but I don't remember having any trouble with power management on my Inspiron 600m when I ran 8-04.

I am running 8.04 on an HP Mini and there is no "Power Management" in System Settings. Closest I can find is Advanced|System Services, which just allows enabling of apmd and such.

If you install KPowerSave you can use it to tweak your power management settings so that battery life will be considerably longer. In addition to that, I run PowerTop from the console to make more cuts in power usage.

Have a look at this thread.
