    Printing from WinXP to Linux

    Hi all.
I have switched my Internet server/Firewall from Windows to Linux, and am loving it. Everything is working as required, except printing.
I have an Epson Stylus CX-3100 connected to the Linux box, using the CX-3200 drivers (an article informs me that the CX-3200 was labelled as the CX-3100 in Australia). It has Samba set up with guest access.

I have shared the printer out and can connect to it from my WinXP box.
The problem is that when I try to print anything from XP, it takes 1-5 minutes for the doc to actually print, and the application requesting the print is locked until the print finishes.

    I have tried this using various flavours of Linux - Xandros3, Fedora4, Mandrake 9.2, Kubuntu5.04, Kubuntu5.10 (my fav), Suse9.2, Mepis3.3.1-1.
It doesn't matter what dist I use - printing from XP always takes some time.
I am of the opinion that the issue is with the XP box (surprise, surprise) and not Linux.

Does anyone have any ideas as to how to tackle solving this problem?
PS. I should mention that the XP box is my wife's and I cannot convince her to switch over to Linux. ;-(

    Many thanks in advance

    Drew

    Printing from WinXP to Linux

I used to have all sorts of trouble sharing my printers as well. In the end I gave up and turned an old pc that I had lying around into a print server (linux based of course). All you need is a floppy drive and a network card (entire server runs of the floppy). I now print to it from Linux, Windows and OS X.
    It's a really nice solution.
