    Avatars!?!?

this question doesn't necessarily relate to Kubuntu only, but I can't help but notice some of the really cool avatars that some of you guys have.

Where can I get or create my own really cool avatar? 8)

I just 'surfed' the 'Net looking for images I liked. The one I use here was gotten from Tux Factory - CrystalXP.net and I then turned it into a transparent (background) image.

      Thanks Snowhog!

I'm assuming you used GIMP to make that background transparent. I'll take a look around and see what images I may like to work with.

Anyone used memaker (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/memaker)? I was reading about that one earlier tonight. If so, what do you think of it?

You're welcome, and yes, I used Gimp.

          Re: Avatars!?!?

My avatar here on the forums was drawn for me by an old friend, but I've put together avatars for other forums using some of these sites:
          • http://zen-ink.org/lj/dookyweb-facemaker.swf
          • http://www.tektek.org/dream/index.php
          • http://www.reasonablyclever.com/mizers.html
          • http://www.sp-studio.de/

Then I just make the background transparent in GIMP like Snowhog did on his. And sometimes, depending upon my goal, I'll edit other things in GIMP as well. For example, I've done versions of the same character in my avatar here using each of those sites, but I had to do at least some editing in GIMP to get her looking right. You can see a lot of these in my icons on my LJ account, specifically the ones I use for RPG stuff on LJ. http://www.livejournal.com/allpics.bml?user=diziara

I'm lazy. I scan an old photo from the family album, and use gimp to cut out an interesting character.

Made my current one from scratch using Wings3D and GIMP. The moon actually came from the web. Didn't draw or "make" the moon. My original was a blend of a scanned pictures using GIMP.

What, even on the Kubuntu forums there's no love for Krita?

(Not that my "avatar" is at all notable, but for the record mine is just a colourized version of the KDE3 Kicker logo I found on kde-look.org; KDE 3 was my first real desktop environment love, after years of loving computers but scoffing at the environments in Windows and MacOS, and having it teal I figured made it unique enough to be my picture...plus my name starts with K too).
