Re: KDE 4.5.10....
KDE3 is at 3.5.10.
KDE4 is at 4.3.2

Re: KDE 4.5.10....
One can hope the KDE 4.x in it's future, reaches a level of stability and functionality that we all like so much in KDE 3.5.10.Windows no longer obstructs my view.
Using Kubuntu Linux since March 23, 2007.

Re: KDE 4.5.10....
It took a good 10 years for kde 1.x to get to kde3.5.xx.
Now, we have a kde that is far superior and getting better after not even 2 years.
Can someone please explain the problem?HP Pavilion dv6 core i7 (Main)

October 14, 1996 KDE Project announced by Matthias Ettrich
KDE 1.0 is in development 16 months before 1.0 released.
12 July 1998 KDE 1.0 released
6 February 1999 KDE 1.1 released
KDE spends 27 months in 1.x series before 2.0 is released
23 October 2000 KDE 2.0 released (Konqueror was introduced)
26 February 2001 KDE 2.1 released
15 August 2001 KDE 2.2 released (considered the first stable release of 2.x)
KDE spends 18 months in the 2.x series before 3.0 is released
3 April 2002 KDE 3.0 released
(Large number of changes between 2.2 and 3.0 creates firestorm of complaints about 3.0)
28 January 2003 KDE 3.1 released
3 February 2004 KDE 3.2 released
19 August 2004 KDE 3.3 released
16 March 2005 KDE 3.4 released
29 November 2005 KDE 3.5 released
KDE takes 42 months between 3.0 and 3.5.
KDE stays at 3.5 and it is improved/changed until it reaches 3.5.10, which is its final version number.
KDE has spent 69 months in the 3.x series before 4.0 is released
TrollTech, the developer of Qt announces the archiving/abandonment of Qt3 and the creation of Qt4.
For technical reasons it is not possible to port KDE3 as the base of KDE4, so KDE developers redesign KDE4 from scratch.
(Most of Window's bloat and poor performance and instability is because Microsoft kept compatibility with previous releases of Windows and DOS.)
11 January 2008 KDE 4.0 released
(Huge paradigm change between KDE 3.5 and KDE 4.0 results in a huge firestorm of complaints about 4.0)
29 July 2008 KDE 4.1 released (First release of KDE4 that is stable is 4.1.2)
27 January 2009 KDE 4.2 released
4 August 2009 KDE 4.3 released (Major speed enhancements)
KDE has been in 4.x for 20 months, so far. Only two months longer than the 2.0 series.
KDE 3 had 69 months of development to achieve its level of polish and it, too, had its periods of criticism, but not nearly as many as KDE4 has received, partly because a LOT more people are using KDE4 at its 20th month than were using KDE3 at its 20th month.
By the 4.2 release KDE 4 had nearly approached feature parity with KDE 3.5. The release was generally well received according to Thom Holwerda. KDE 4.3.x has received the blessings of a large number of reviewers and the complaints have died out and turned to praise, save for the trolls, MS fanbois and MS TE's astroturfing as Penguins.
KDE 4.3 has the remaining release dates in its timeline:
# 1.22 October 30th, 2009: Tag KDE 4.3.3
# 1.23 November 3rd, 2009: Release KDE 4.3.3
Here is the KDE 4.4 release schedule.
* 1.1 October 10th, 2009: Trunk depends on Qt 4.6
* 1.2 November 4th, 2009: Soft Feature Freeze
* 1.3 November 25th, 2009: Hard Feature Freeze
* 1.4 November 25th, 2009: Message Freeze.
* 1.5 November 25th, 2009: Tag KDE 4.4 Beta 1
* 1.6 December 1st, 2009: Release KDE 4.4 Beta 1
* 1.7 December 1st, 2009: Documentation/Handbook Freeze
* 1.8 December 16th, 2009: Tag KDE 4.4 Beta 2
* 1.9 December 22nd, 2009: Release KDE 4.4 Beta 2
* 1.10 January 5th, 2010: Artwork and Bindings Freeze
* 1.11 January 5th, 2010: Tag KDE 4.4 RC 1
* 1.12 January 6th, 2010: Release KDE 4.4 RC 1
* 1.13 January 19th, 2010: Tag KDE 4.4 RC 2
* 1.14 January 20th, 2010: Release KDE 4.4 RC 2
* 1.15 February 3rd, 2010: Tag KDE 4.4
* 1.16 February 9th, 2010: Release KDE 4.4
KDE 4.4 will be based on version 4.6 of Qt.
Notice that it has been in development for 21 days already, and is scheduled for release on February 9th, 2010, just over three months from now. KDE 4.4.3 will probably be the last release of the 4.4.x series.
Now, to answer your question as to whether KDE will reach 4.5.10... YES.
A KDE 4.5 timeline has not been released yet, but some KDE developers are already working on parts of KDE 4.5 and I would guesstimate that the release of KDE 4.5 will be sometime around June of 2010. They will be using the Qt 4.6 Qt version for it, which was released as beta two weeks ago by QtSoftware. It should be final by the end of the year.
