    Linux and dual socket support

I have been looking into whether or not linux will address dual socket workstations. I use kubuntu and ubuntu and would like to move to a workstation but am not sure if a dual socket board is supported. I believe redhat enterprise has support for 2 cpus but have not found much about other linux distros other than support for multiple cores using smp in the kernal. Anyone have an answer to this. thanks

Back before multicore desktop processors were available I used Linux on my own SMP workstations, going on ten years ago I think. Back then you had to select an SMP kernel when you installed or compile one on your own but these days Ubuntu and almost every other mainstream distribution has support for more than one physical processor built in.
