    Nice KDE/Firefox integration on openSUSE

    http://en.opensuse.org/KDE/FirefoxIntegration

Some good ideas there... I realize this won't be considered on kubuntu since FF isn't even provided by default, but perhaps if the attitude about making the KDE-as-much-as-humanly-possible distro a little more flexible for this one app that has to be the greatest gateway-app of all time for new users, then this would be a nice list of features to include.

And I'll say it again... the CD/release isn't for current kubuntu users... it's the whole advertising budget lumped together in one (semiannual) attempt to acquire new users, therefore FF has to be on it... an easy-peasy installer isn't good enough, IMO.

The devs actually discussed this topic, at some length. The essence of the decision was that Ff took too much space on the CD, forcing off other programs that had fewer substitutes. Hence, despite the obvious advantages of including Ff, the end result was the CD would be more useful without it. There's a recent link to their discussion, somewhere on this site.

Later: Oops, I can't find the link. I must have seen the the discussion somewhere else, if at all.

Yeah, I know... I wasn't trying to beat a dead horse here... I just respectfully disagree with the decision, and wanted to provide some new info (the openSUSE plans) to the discussion.

If visual integration is what you're after, use the qt-curve theme for GTK apps and KDE appearance.

But there are some things that qt-curve just doesn't do. Like for instance if you try uploading a file to a website, a GTK-style window pops up. Thanks one thing that always annoyed me.

Show Firefox notifications as KDE4 Plasma notifications.

Since KDE4 uses Plasma notifications, the common Firefox notifications did not match the look and feel. This addon replaces the usual firefox notifications with top-notch Plasma notifications which do integrate quite nicely into KDE4.

You can now use the kde file dialog in Firefox 2.0 by going to about:config

            Kubuntu/Ubuntu Feature Parity

            >> Full Specification: Kubuntu/Ubuntu Feature Parity
GNOME once lagged behind KDE in terms of features and usability, but Ubuntu's developers have remedied that situation. Since Ubuntu 7.10, a user in GNOME has had a GUI for every user tool and option.

Kubuntu has been playing catch-up with Ubuntu for a while now, and we are very close. The KDE4 overhaul reset a lot of this, but we are back on track.

Both projects (Ubuntu and Kubuntu) should be an exposition for the Canonical sponsored "magic" we've seen in Ubuntu. The community has spoken loudly about the lack in feature parity. Features should be implemented equally and at the same time when designed by the ubuntu team.

The Ubuntu developer team and the Kubuntu developer team must talk together about the new features for each version and implement they at the same time and with the same quality....

Available, but not by default from kubuntu... one wonders if there is any difference between our FF package and the direct from Mozilla version (other than user agent).

The statement about contributing is of course true... but FF needs to be on default install first to worry about the implementation of it. And that, as it has been pointed out, is routinely discussed and apparently shot down.

But one more thing... I consider posting the information here to be at least a minor contribution to the "problem"... people's participation on this forum shouldn't be [apparently) dismissed as random complaining...
