Need Internet connection

Hello guys I'm new to Linux, I recently installed it the big problem is that I dont have an Internet connection on mp PC running on Linux. I'm in Zim and its unfortunate that WLAN doesnt reach my area of residence. I have a 56K modem. so how do I configure it to get connected. Please help me...

Im using K/Ubuntu 32bit system

Is the modem internal or external?
