    OS Frustration

I am frustrated with operating systems.  Windows, OSX, and Linux.  Microsoft is overpriced and pressures you into using their applications (IE, Media Player, etc.).  I don't like the Windows product activation.  I feel like Microsoft knows everything that I do on my computer. (Not that I have anything to hide ) OSX is a great OS with the exception of having to buy a Mac.  Linux has the potential for being an awesome OS.  The main problem I have with it are program compatibility issues (Flash, Shockwave, etc.).  I know you can run a lot of Windows apps via Wine, but they don't always run well.  Wireless networking is another issue I have.  It's a pain in the ass sometimes.  It doesn't always cooperate.  Third, driver issues are another problem I have with Linux.  DVDs don't always play well. Watching porn.  Now there's an issue in itself.  The codecs--better support please!  Other than those things, I love Linux.  I really appreciate the people who put their heart and soul into creating something free.  I know there's not a perfect OS, but I am just tired of being pressured into things.

Kubuntu and Ubuntu are my favorite distros.

The next time you buy a computer, buy a Linux-preloaded one.
The next time you try a distribution, use one that's not committed to free software (PCLinuxOS, Mepis, Blag--those all come with proprietary codecs).
Linux is ready for the desktop--but whose desktop?<br />How to install software in Kubuntu

      Re: OS Frustration

Most of your grievances (like flash, codecs etc.) can be solved in kubuntu, too, with some effort (because of the free philosophy of kubuntu), but if you want them out-of-the-box, then aysiu's right...kubuntu is not the best distro for you (unless you of course value the benefits of kubuntu more).

If you want information on howto include 'non-free' (as in speech) elements in kubuntu, check:

With some effort only if you do it the MANual way, There's EasyUbuntu for the linux/time/laziness challenged.

To download the Beta release, which at long last works with Kubuntu, read and weep:
        Code:
        wget [url]http://robotgeek.org/eu/easyubuntu-3.0-beta.tar.gz[/url]
        tar -zxf easyubuntu-3.0-beta.tar.gz
        cd easyubuntu
        sudo python easyubuntu.py
        press enter after each line
