    Are the above instructions still valid for Karmic Koala?

    I installed the kubuntu-restricted-extras, but the following file does not exist:
    /usr/share/doc/kaffeine/install-css.sh

      Unless you install Kaffeine, it won't be.

        I have kaffeine installed.

        Code:
        $ sudo apt-get install kubuntu-restricted-extras
        kubuntu-restricted-extras is already the newest version.
        0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.

        $ sudo apt-get install kaffeine
        kaffeine is already the newest version.
        0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.

         ls -l /usr/share/doc/kaffeine/
        total 32

        However, I found this:
        Code:
        $ locate install-css.sh
        /usr/share/doc/libdvdread4/install-css.sh
        I guess it's the same one and that it has been moved between releases.

          I got this information from https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Re...ts/PlayingDVDs

          excerpt:
          • Install the libdvdread4 package (no need to add third party repositories) via Synaptic or command line:

          Code:
          sudo apt-get install libdvdread4
          • Then open a terminal window and execute:

          Code:
          sudo /usr/share/doc/libdvdread4/install-css.sh
          • Rebooting may be necessary.

          I've tried this and it works. Any multimedia application that relies on libdvdread4 will work after this.
          Please read the whole article for more information...

            Re: encrypted DVD region1 are now possible to be played under KUBUNTU !!!!!!!!!

            On the Dell E510 that I installed Kubuntu LL on a couple days ago I discovered, after using Medibuntu and doing the Kaffine things mentioned here, that DVDs won't start automatically after I click on Dragon Player, or chose VLC. (Unlike my personal laptop, or all previous installations I've done using Kubuntu Jaunty, LL or Maverick).

            I find that I have to open the first VBO file manually to start the DVD.
