Greetings, I have almost completely migrated from Gnome to KDE so I still haven't figured out how to do most of things... I'm pretty sure this is an easy task, but I obviously need help on figuring that out, I've fiddled around with the firefox settings long enough I need help, thanks in advance.

Re: How do I use Firefox with Dolphin?
I'm not sure what you're asking but....
To use Firefox, just run it from the K-menu (bottom left hand side of the screen).
To use Dolphin, ensure it's installed. There's no harm checking in Adept Manager that any required plug-ins are installed.
Both can be run through browsing the K-menu or opening a terminal and typing "firefox" or "dolphin" (or "sudo dolphin" if you need extra privileges but be careful). The alternative to using the terminal is to press "Alt+F2" then typing your command to the system.
If you want to use Firefox to browse your computer then you will need to install a plug-in by visiting the Mozilla project (open Firefox, click Tools at the top and select Addons. In the new window that opens, select Get Addons. On the left hand side you will see it says "Browse All Addons." Click this to be taken to Mozilla's addons website).
I hope I've helped.
I've tried gnome and didn't like it. I'm sure you'll find KDE a more rewarding experience.

Re: How do I use Firefox with Dolphin?
I understand....I think,
Open Firefox, click Edit, Preferences, select the Main tab and toward the middle of the pain you will see it says "Downloads", click Browse and choose your Desktop as the download location. All downloads will now defaultly arrive at your Desktop.
Sometimes, you will need to change a file's permissions before you may run (execute) it. Do not do this to system files or any file you haven't personally created or downloaded unless sure of what you are doing. Right click the file, click Properties then select Permissions. Change the "Owner" permissions to allow read, write and execute (sometimes this needs to be done to the "User" permissions too). To change the permissions, either use the drop-down box or select "Advanced Permissions". It's a case of What-You-See-Is-What-You-Get (wysiwyg) from here.
Note that sometimes having too many permissions ascribed to the Owner, User or Group can prevent a file from being opened or executed too (my experience anyway).
To access, write or execute certain files you need to open Dolphin (or any other file manager) as root. To do this, open a terminal (A.K.A Konsole, Console) and type "sudo dolphin", you'll be prompted for your password, once entered Dolphin will open. Be careful when using a file manager as root - you might delete, move or change permissions of a file/program and lose system integrity (i.e something might then need to be re-installed e.g your desktop).
Here's the typical....it's usually better to try to find a download in Adaptec (Adept Manager). Sometimes a repository (software library) is all that needs to be added. Check that you have all your required repo's selected by opening Adaptec, on the title bar, click Adept and select Manage Repositories. Add the needed ones then Fetch Updates.

Re: How do I use Firefox with Dolphin?
Hmm.. I really appreciate you trying to help me, I will make my self as clear as i can, suppose I download a music file from certain website, after the file is done downloading a small box showing the finished file will pop-up, at this point when I was using Gnome and therefore Nautilus as my default file-manager I was able to execute the file by simply double clicking on the name of the file that showed on the Downloads box that popped up or I could just open the containing folder by right clicking the name of the file and selecting Open Containing Folder, I can no longer do that on Kubuntu Using dolphin or I don't know how to at least.
Is there a way to configure Firefox to use Dolphin as it's default File Manager?, I'm Currently Using KDE4 by the way, Thank You!Sure...

Re: How do I use Firefox with Dolphin?
O.K. I use KDE 3. In KDE 3, through the K-menu go to System Settings (if I remember rightly, KDE 4 has it too but I'm not sure of the menu category). In System Settings, you choose Default Applications and there alter file associations. This part of KDE is also accessible from kcontrol under KDE components.
Failing this, use Konqueror or Thunar.
As a side note, (and you've likely tried this already) download a different file type (a pdf, jpeg or something) to see what happens when you try to open it.
Also, I don't usually open files by clicking them in Firefox's download box but I remember they usually open this way in KDE 3 too (it's a component of Firefox).
Sorry if I'm making little sense but I've been awake over 24 hours (again!!).
Edited to add: in Firefox's address bar, type about:config
Take particular care with the config page (take note of the warning page it opens). Somewhere here you might (no promises) find a way to achieve your goal. Then again, about:config might be a wild goose chase

Re: How do I use Firefox with Dolphin?
Herzchell, if you still want to try and get it working the way you want it to I will try and rephrase what I think you are saying, as I understand it.
Disclaimer: I don't use KDE4, it's my understanding that there are still some bugs, so It's possible that could be interfering. Some people here do use it and they will help if it is the problem.
It seems to me you are describing the download window that Firefox uses (and which you can access from the Firefox menu under Tools) and it is there from which you want to be able to open your downloaded file.
The "open" link and the right click context menu you talk about use the mime type (file association) that is set in the system for each different type of file. Thus when you download a file, for example an MP3, music file, and click on "open" in the download window, the system should use the default mp3 file handler to open the file, and the music should start playing. I think that's what ultrageeky was telling you to check and/or reconfigure in the File Association section of the Default Applications section of System Settings.
Open Containing Folder, in that right click menu, should open the folder in a file manager though, just as you expect, just like it did when you were using Gnome. You mentioned it doesn't work but could you be a little more specific. Does nothing happen, does it just fail silently? If it previously worked, and you haven't removed Gnome and/or Nautilus from your install after adding KDE, it should still open in Nautilus.
If you don't want to go any further, just ignore my post but it's the weekend now and there will be lots of people around who will try to help you if you choose to continue.

Re: How do I use Firefox with Dolphin?
Correct, that's the Download window I was talking about, Thanks for your reply tinker, I have setup the file associations in system preferences but not on firefox itself. I noticed there is an applications Tab under Edit>Preferences and that there is a "file" type of file that doesn't have anything associated to it.
Perhaps this is what I should be messing with?, It's just that I don't know what to use for "file".
By the way, Your rephrasing abilities are superb.Sure...

Re: How do I use Firefox with Dolphin?
Well, since it's been a couple of days since I was here I'm surprised no one helped you over the weekend.
It sounds like somehow your system became confused about what it is supposed to be the default handler for directories (folders). As I mentioned I haven't tried KDE4 so I don't know if there are any bugs about this. You're probably using Firefox3 also an that is another thing I haven't yet tried so I may be worth less than zero to you on this issue.
In your initial post you say you've "migrated" from Gnome to KDE, I'm not clear on what you mean by migrated, do you mean you started with Ubuntu and then added KDE desktop or something else?
I do have an installation with Firefox2 and I don't have any non-associated "file type of file", like you describe, in the associations dialogue. In this installation, the right click context menu opens containing folder with nautilus but I do have both Gnome and KDE on it, so nautilus is available.
I think what you want to achieve is something similar to what is shown at the following link:
http://rubylution.ping.de/articles/2...ox-under-linux.
That's my best guess at this point.

Re: How do I use Firefox with Dolphin?
I had the same trouble, and got this to work.
As you described, under Firefox, Edit -> preferences -> Applications, there is a 'file' content type. This content type appears to be what is used for folders. I changed to 'choose other', and typed in /usr/lib/kde4/bin/dolphin which is the location of dolphin on my kubuntu system.
Now, when I choose open containing folder, it opens up in dolphin as I'd like it to!
Good luck doing the same.

On Suse 11 KDE 4.1, I did this to solve the problem.
On "Start Menu" (Classic style) click on "Personal Settings"
Click on "Advanced" tab
Click on "File Associations"
Select "inode" category
click on "directory"
On right side click on "Dolphin"
Click on "edit"
Click on "Application" tab
In command field might be written something like this "dolphin %i -caption "%c" "%u"
delete and just type "dolphin" with no quotes
finally click "OK"

Re: How do I use Firefox with Dolphin?
I had the same problem (folders don't open from firefox download bar).
I'm running kubuntu 8.1/KDE4.1 and Firefox 3.
As described earlier, I went to Edit -> preferences -> Applications and chose the item 'file'.
Only the location for dolphin is /usr/bin/X11/dolphin
So if it doesn't work, make sure you got the dolphin directory right!
The above folder works for me.
