    Word frequency counter

I'm looking for a foss version of the following program: Word Frequency Counter.

It allows one to scan all the files in a folder and count the number of times certain words appear (or just which words appear most often). That one is windows only though and if possible I would much prefer something that ran on linux. I'm not expecting anyone here to know of one but figured I'd ask just in case. Any ideas?

I don't know of a specific programme that matches your requirements but in the absence of anything else why not read the man pages for grep : egrep : fgrep which can probably help out. grep with -c set seems the best bet, perhaps with a simple script to step through the files in the directory.

    grep -c word nameoffile
