    Wow!! Kde 4.1.2

I tried the early Kubuntu version - and on my old Dell Dimension - it was SO slow - but hats off the to the KDE guys - just installed the 8.10 Beta and with a little xorg.conf tweak - it works like a treat !!

With xorg.conf had a few issues with not detecting the correct settings, but with a few tweaks for my very old Intel 82865G Integrated Graphics Controller I got it working (yes I know I need to spend a few £ to upgrade) - but hey while it works.....

Anyhow for those who have the same Graphics Card - and want to KDE4 running here is my xorg.conf:

    Code:
    # xorg.conf (X.Org X Window System server configuration file)
    #
    # This file was generated by dexconf, the Debian X Configuration tool, using
    # values from the debconf database.
    #
    # Edit this file with caution, and see the xorg.conf manual page.
    # (Type "man xorg.conf" at the shell prompt.)
    #
    # This file is automatically updated on xserver-xorg package upgrades *only*
    # if it has not been modified since the last upgrade of the xserver-xorg
    # package.
    #
    # If you have edited this file but would like it to be automatically updated
    # again, run the following command:
    # sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg

So if Kubuntu 8.10 (currently development) only 'half loads' after logging in check your xorg.conf -- or send me a pm (if you have the same graphics card) - cheers all

    Re: Wow!! Kde 4.1.2

    I'm hoping you can help...
I'm trying to install Kubuntu 8.10 on a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo notebook with an Intel 82845GL VGA Graphics card.
The install from Live CD goes well until the initial splash screen (with the HDD, System Tools, Globe and K Icons). The screen then goes into a cycle of blank, black screen, the splash screen etc etc until I switch off. No access to Ctrl Alt F1, F2 or F7 nor any mouse activity (visible & clickable, but screen goes black).
I've tried safe graphics mode and tried VGA=791 in the f6 options on installation with no joy.
On installin Ubuntu 8.10 on the same machine, I had to uninstall compiz to get it working. compiz is not installed as part of Kubuntu so that option is not available.
Its cl;early a video problem, but I'm stuck.

      Hello timjohn, and Welcome.

When you booted the CD, did you select Check the CD for Defects?
