    Is the HDD dead?

Okay, just need some clarification. Had a sucessful setup of Kubuntu running. The other day when I went to boot the system up, It got about halfway through the process when it started scrolling with a lot of
"buffer I/O error. Device Hda1 logical insert longass numbers here'
Not word for word, but that's the gist. Is that Linux's way of telling me that my cheap, second hand drive is dead?

At most manufacture sites there are tools that test the hdd if it has error and if its still got warranty.

Well, for anyone else who's curious. Yes, a message along those lines means it's dead. Been monkeying around with since then. Secondhand hardrives are nice for just checking systems out, but you'll save money and frustration in the long run using new ones. Just a tip.
