What is The Limitations Of Linux ?

I did find this article, but it is a little thin and sketchy

It's also seriously out of date, and (even for 2003) doesn't display much knowledge of what was available in Linux then, let alone now.

I'm going to move this thread to "Everything Else", because I think it would be illuminating to some of our members who may not realize that Linux is ready for the enterprise.

To my mind as a former small business owner who used Linux for (almost) everything. the only thing that Linux lacked was an accounting program that complied with the standards of auditability (is that a word?) for US government contractors. Moreover, I suspect that this was more a people problem than a software problem. Other than Quick Books Pro, which I didn't choose, the only Windows software I used was Mathcad. If I were still in business, I'd try to find an engineering scratchpad program for Linux because current editions of Mathcad look bloated and slow. So from my perspective, a small (a dozen or so employees) technical firm can get by quite well using Linux.

it's not that people developing linux are thick.
or people developing windoze or solaris (or syllable) know better.
an operating system is an operating system.
design and implementation issues are clear to any computer scientist.
the differences in operating systems are differences in...choices.
      ethical and philosiphical choices.
      then design and implementation choices.
so i don't see any inhirent limitations in either operating systems.
      especially in linux.
      besides, linux is...open.
and if it's open, it can't have limitations, can it?

      hth
      gnu/linux is not windoze
