    Intrepid: Strange mouse happenings

I installed kubuntu 8.10 alpha 1, and am playing with it, and discovered that sometimes the screen stops updating when I let it just go and do not have any input activity.

For example, I am currently updating the install via command line apt-get. As it is downloading, the bytes downloaded/total progress stops updating the status of the download, but if I move the mouse, the current values are shown and it starts updating the progress again.

One time I had to click and move the konsole window to get the screen to update the status - it was just hung at like 2M out of 9M, although it was still downloading.

This also happened once with synaptic. The progress bar stopped at around 31%- but my modem lights show lots of download activity, so I know it is still working, just that the status bar stopped working. Moving the mouse also updated it to the current values, but only temporarily.

Just wondering if anyone else is having weird things like this.

Also, it would be nice to have an 8.10 forum area [soon?].

    Thanks.

    A quick update.

Also, when I shut down last time, it shutdown the xserver and kdm, and went to a black screen and hung there for a while, doing nothing. I tried to move the mouse, but without x it had no effect. I then hit the enter key.

Each time I hit the enter key, one more line of the shutdown script was executed. One line at a time, and each one requiring a key press. It eventually shut down.

So, the problem isn't necessarily with the xserver, or kdm, but something hangs like it is waiting for an interrupt or user input or something on a much deeper lever. Kernel?

    Very strange to me.
