need to know how to link evolution to use g mail to send and receive as default application

First, you need to set up evolution to receive and send your gmail if you have not already done that. See this page on how to get the POP settings.

Then you need to select evolution as your default mail client in System Settings>Default Applications.

You will also want to change the settings in Firefox, if you are using it to open mailto links with evolution. There are several threads in the forum on how to set up the mailto link in FF. Most are about using Thunderbird, but the same instructions should work for evolution.
