    Kubuntu 8.04

Just a few words of thanks to all involved in this distro. I've been wandering about with various offerings, but not really finding one that sort of, 'fits all' my needs. Except for having an ATI X1950 (512MB) card which 'all' distro's refuse to allow me any sort of comparable windows performance (even enabling the restricted driver gives me a black screen on reboot, resulting in me having to reboot in failsafe and reconfiguring the Xserver back to default install mode). Anyway, KDE4 looked interesting until i saw it's the same slab outlay as OpenSuse (which i don't like).

The main programs i use is bible software which i spent many, many sleepless nights trying to get to work using Wine, and quite miserably failing, either wine cannot find a .dll which is right next to the .exe, or just shows blank screens, i find within the repositiory of Kubuntu the BibleTime software, what can i say other than a big thank you to the devs for that one, perhaps i can finally lay windows to rest and get on with life 8)

Again, a big thank you to all involved in Kubuntu/Ubuntu/whatever, and here's looking forward to a quite life

    Regards Barryg

    Re: Kubuntu 8.04

Barry, it sounds like you want to run Linux, but you have an essential Windows-only application that you need to run. I have exactly the same situation, and my Windows-only application also will not run correctly in Wine.

I recommend you explore the possibility of setting up either VirtualBox or VMware Player on your Kubuntu system. Both have a free (as in beer, with a license) version that you can download and install. I use VMware Player, and here is the "How To" if you want to try it:

I'm at the age (i guess), where stressing out driving GTR, rFactor etc.. Or running round like a headless chicken in C.S has finally caught up with me. I just can't be bothered anymore, and now enjoy studying/ general reading more enjoyable. Thanks for the update on the VM stuff, i'll certainly look into it .
