I'm trying to send a large file (approx 1GB) from my friend's computer in another State to mine. What application can handle this operation the easiest? Please advise.

If your friends (and your) Internet Service Providers don't limit the size of file attachments, just send it via email. If size of attachments is restricted, you can compress the file first to reduce the size. If that attachment is still to large for your ISPs, then uploading it to any number of 'free' file transfer sites is another option. If you have access to an FTP site, you could transfer the file there and retrieve it via FTP when you get back home.

This will creat a VPN "Virtual Private Network" as if both computers are on the same LAN. Then your friend should enable file sharing for the folder containing the file.

Isn't there some way to use an FTP program and transfer the file from one IP address to another or do I have to use an FTP file repository site?
